10th Fly the Flag tour tracks historic route and claims
Rich River Golf Club Resort was the highlight!
The 10th Anniversary RACV Fly the Flag Tour swept through Central and Northern Victoria in March this year on a seven-day pilgrimage to more than a dozen country towns, following in the wheel tracks of significant motoring events held by RACV in the 1920’s and 30’s. More than 200 Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Modern Classic vehicles over 25 years old - with a combined value of more than $10 million - departed from the Ultima Reception Centre Keilor on Saturday, 26 March 2011. Popular actor and motoring enthusiast John Wood and RACV President and Chairman Peter Chandler flagged the cars away at 9.30am. “This tour is the 10th in a series of historic motoring tours of Victoria run by RACV to support and celebrate historic motoring in Victoria. The tour celebrates the spirit of adventure and passion for motoring with a group of enthusiastic motorists.” “It demonstrates RACV’s commitment to historic motoring and recognises the significant contribution made by the automobile and those intrepid motorists who opened up regional areas to economic growth and tourism.” The tour travelled through Malmsbury, Castlemaine, Maldon, Pyramid Hill, Boort, Swan Hill, Quambatook, Deniliquin, Echuca, Cobram, Yarrawonga, Rutherglen, Wangaratta, Bonnie Doon Yea, and visited historic heritage parks, homesteads, botanical gardens, wineries and pioneer landmarks finishing at RACV Healesville Country Club on Friday, 1 April. Among the Vintage and Classic Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Fords, MGs Healeys, Ferraris, Morgans, Mercs, Jeeps, Jags and Beetles was the RACV’s iconic 1955 yellow FJ Holden. This vehicle is one of a fleet of FJ patrol vans used by RACV during 1955 to 1960. Two modern day RACV Road Patrol vans followed the cavalcade to lend assistance if needed to the convoy. There was plenty of opportunity for spectators to admire the historic car fleet with a number of public displays of the vehicles en-route. On Wednesday the 30th and Thursday the 31st of March, the fleet of 400+ people spent time in Echuca/Moama indulging in the delectable cuisine Rich River had to offer.

The tour ate 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts at Rich River Golf Club Resort and the event organisers couldn’t be more thrilled with how smooth and professional everything went.
“This is, by far, the best place we have eaten on our trip! We certainly won’t go hungry,” said one man as he gazed over the buffet breakfast spread of freshly cooked eggs, bacon, toast, tomatoes, hash browns, fresh fruit, yogurt and so much more.
Other towns required the RACV group to fit into town halls and often struggled to facilitate for the large numbers. Therefore, Rich River Golf Club Resort was a breath of fresh air with the spacious and inviting Tatalia function centre that is specifically tailored for this type of group.
“The tour has been terrific, and hopefully we’ll be back next year” said motoring enthusiast, Rechelle Paton.
Rich River also hopes to see them return as the Club’s car park filled with 200 historic cars was quite a spectacular sight!
